Hygiene starts where you can’t see it

Indoor air quality affects health, well-being and productivity. As people spend around 90 per cent of their time indoors, a ventilation system that meets the highest hygiene standards is an essential component of modern buildings.

Schmid Gebäudetechnik - Your partner for ventilation and building technology!

Dirty ventilation systems can accumulate dust, pollen, mould spores and other contaminants. At the same time, energy consumption and wear and tear on the system increase. Regular hygiene inspections and cleaning improve indoor air quality, enhance operational safety and extend the system’s service life.

Health Efficiency Air quality

Benefits of indoor air quality

Health:

  • Reduction of particulate matter and allergens (provides relief for the respiratory tract and for people with allergies)

  • Improving well-being

  • Prevention of headaches and difficulty concentrating (through the continuous supply of fresh oxygen and the removal of CO2

  • Reducing the risk of infection (by diluting and removing viruses and bacteria from the air in the room)

Efficiency:

  • Reducing energy consumption (e.g. through highly efficient heat recovery)

  • Extended service life of the ventilation system (clean motors and fans wear out much more slowly)

  • Less maintenance and cleaning required (good filters keep the entire pipework system clean)

  • Ensuring that the property retains its value (by preventing damp damage to the masonry)

Hygiene:

  • Improving indoor air quality

  • Odour reduction

  • Promoting a hygienic indoor environment

  • Protection against mould growth (through the targeted removal of excess moisture from the kitchen, bathroom and living areas)

  • Prevention of dust build-up and the formation of bacteria in the ventilation ducts (by regularly changing the filters)

Planning, Performance & Selection

Where is indoor air quality particularly important?

Shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, indoor swimming pools, fitness centres, pharmacies, doctors’ surgeries, hospitals, care homes, schools, office buildings, event venues and industrial buildings benefit particularly from hygienic ventilation.

Planning:

  • On-site inspection
  • Needs analysis and concept development.
  • Consideration of energy and economic aspects.

We will be happy to provide you with comprehensive advice and create a tailor-made concept for your company.

Technology & Comparison

Air hygiene technologies

Excellent indoor air quality is no longer merely a luxury, but a fundamental pillar of health and operational efficiency. Where simply opening windows for a quick air change reaches its limits, modern air hygiene technologies come into play. They ensure that we can breathe deeply indoors, free from viruses, allergens and pollutants.

* Bacteria and viruses are actively inactivated/killed by cold plasma, rather than simply being trapped.

HEPA Filter

  • HEPA filters remove the finest particles, such as fine dust, pollen and mould spores, as well as aerosols containing bacteria and viruses, through mechanical filtration. They are essential for hospitals, cleanrooms and laboratories. The disadvantages include high pressure drop, higher energy consumption and the need for regular filter changes.

Activated carbon filter

  • Activated carbon filters adsorb odours and gaseous pollutants (VOCs). They are ideal for kitchens, catering establishments or underground car parks. However, they do not filter out particles or micro-organisms. Once saturated, the filters must be replaced.

Cold plasma ionisation

  • Cold plasma complements traditional filter technology. Depending on the system, odours, VOCs and certain bacteria, mould spores and viruses in the air can be reduced or inactivated. As no activated carbon is saturated and there is virtually no consumption of consumables, running costs are often significantly lower.

Maintenance costs: a crucial factor

  • For businesses, it is not only the investment costs that are crucial, but, in particular, the life-cycle costs.
  • HEPA Filter
    • high filter costs
    • regular changes
    • higher power consumption due to pressure loss
    • Disposal costs
  • Activated carbon
    • periodic replacement of the activated carbon
    • Disposal of saturated filters
    Lower operating costs:
  • Cold plasma
    • long service life of the modules
    • very few consumables
    • low pressure drop
    • low energy consumption
    • low maintenance costs

Particularly where large volumes of air are involved – in shopping centres, hotels, office buildings or sports facilities – the savings can be substantial over many years.

Schmid & Recommendation

Our recommendation

The best solution in terms of both cost-effectiveness and hygiene is often a combination of high-quality particle filtration and supplementary cold plasma ionisation. This ensures high air quality, minimal odour levels and low long-term running costs. The optimal solution depends on the building’s use and the hygiene requirements.

Schmid Gebäudetechnik

Do you have any questions?

Ventilation systems improve air quality, increase efficiency and create a pleasant indoor climate. This leads to a number of benefits, such as

  • Health:
    • Improved air quality by removing pollutants, dust and pollen.
    • Reduction of the risk of respiratory diseases and allergies.
    • Increased concentration and performance.
  • Efficiency:
    • Optimisation of the room climate and humidity.
    • Reduction of energy costs through heat recovery.
    • Prevention of mould formation and structural damage.
  • Comfort:
    • Pleasant room climate without draughts and noise.
    • Individual control of the air supply and temperature.
    • Increasing employee satisfaction and productivity.

Choosing the right ventilation system depends on various factors, such as

  • Size of the building
  • Number of persons
  • Individual requirements

We will be happy to provide you with comprehensive advice and create a customised concept for your company.

The cost of a ventilation system varies depending on the type and size of the system and the individual requirements. We will be happy to provide you with a free quote.

Yes, the installation of a ventilation system can be supported by various funding programmes. We will be happy to inform you about the current funding opportunities and help you apply for funding.

In the event of a malfunction, our 24/7 emergency service is at your disposal. We will rectify the fault quickly and competently so that your system works smoothly again.

In addition to installing a ventilation system, there are other measures you can take to improve the air quality in your company, e.g:

  • Regular ventilation
  • Avoidance of pollutants
  • Use of air purifiers

A ventilation system ensures the exchange of air in a room. An air conditioning system, on the other hand, also regulates the temperature and humidity. Many ventilation systems also offer the option of air conditioning.

When installing a ventilation system, various legal requirements must be observed, e.g:

  • Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV)
  • Workplace Ordinance (ArbStättV))
  • Technical rules for ventilation and air conditioning systems (DIN 1946-6)

We are happy to advise you and support you in complying with all relevant standards and regulations.
